Why Is My OTP Not Arriving? 8 Fixes That Work (2026)
Start here: wait, then check the basics
Most missing codes are simple delivery delays. Before troubleshooting, wait about two minutes and check that your phone has signal. Then work through the list below in order.
The 8 fixes
1. Give it two minutes
Carriers sometimes queue verification texts, especially international ones. A code that feels "lost" often arrives shortly. Don't hammer the resend button — that can trigger a rate limit (see fix 8).
2. Check the phone number and country code
A missing or wrong country code is the most common self-inflicted cause. Confirm the number you entered matches the one on the phone you're holding, including the correct international prefix.
3. Free up your message inbox
On some phones a completely full message store silently drops new texts. Delete a few old conversations and request the code again.
4. Confirm you have signal / disable Wi-Fi calling issues
SMS needs a cellular connection. In a low-signal area, step outside or toggle airplane mode off and on to re-register with the network.
5. Check spam/blocked filters
Some phones and carriers filter messages from short codes or unknown senders. Look in any "spam," "blocked," or "unknown senders" folder in your messaging app.
6. The service may be blocking your number type
Many platforms reject VoIP numbers (internet-based numbers) for verification and only accept real mobile numbers. If you used a VoIP line, the text may never be sent at all. This is one of the most common silent failures — see why VoIP numbers get rejected.
7. Try a different number or country
Occasionally a specific carrier route is congested. If you have another number, or can choose a different country's number, that can succeed where the first failed. Our guide on which country number to use explains how to pick.
8. Watch for rate limits
Requesting the code too many times can trigger a temporary block — the service stops sending anything for a while. If you've hit resend repeatedly, wait 15–30 minutes before trying again. More detail in "too many attempts" / rate-limited.
Quick checklist
- Waited 2 minutes? ✔
- Country code correct? ✔
- Inbox not full, signal present? ✔
- Checked spam/blocked folders? ✔
- Number isn't VoIP (if the service blocks those)? ✔
- Not rate-limited from too many retries? ✔

Why is my verification code taking so long?
Usually carrier queueing, especially for international texts. Wait about two minutes before requesting a new one.
Why does a website say my number is invalid?
Often because it's a VoIP number, which many services block. A real mobile (non-VoIP) number is usually required.
I keep requesting the code and now nothing comes. Why?
You've likely hit a rate limit from too many attempts. Wait 15–30 minutes, then try once more.
Does a full inbox stop OTPs?
On some phones, yes — a completely full message store can drop incoming texts. Delete a few and retry.
Should I try a different country's number?
If one route keeps failing, a different number or country can work. Pick a country the service supports.
